I offer private classical guitar lessons in Hafnarfjörður for children and adults, both beginners and those who have previously studied guitar.
I myself began studying classical guitar with my father, Eyþór Þorláksson, at the age of six. I later studied music in Spain and completed a teaching certificate in classical guitar from the Conservatori de Música Isaac Albéniz in Girona in 1986. I also took private lessons in Barcelona and have attended master classes with well-known guitarists, including Oscar Cáceres, David Russell and Manuel Barrueco.
I taught classical guitar and music theory for years at Icelandic music schools and have also worked extensively on creating teaching materials for guitar. The Guitar School is based on this experience and includes learning materials for students from the very beginning to advanced studies.
The lessons are individualized and take into account the age, previous experience and goals of each student.
For beginners, I emphasize a good foundation from the beginning, including correct body and hand position, tone formation, music reading, rhythm and basic classical guitar techniques. As the student progresses, more diverse pieces, technical exercises, music theory and music interpretation are added.
Students who have previously learned guitar can continue their studies based on the skills they already have and the goals they want to achieve.
Teaching material is selected specifically for each student, and I can use, among other things, the extensive collection of sheet music and teaching materials at the Guitar School.
It is never too late to start learning the guitar. Adult beginners are therefore just as welcome as children and teenagers.
The length and frequency of lessons can vary depending on the age and needs of the student. For younger students, shorter lessons may be suitable, while longer lessons may be more suitable for older students and adults.
Lessons can be conducted in Icelandic, English or Spanish.
